THE NATURE OF WORK

Work = effort directed to produce or accomplish something.

➔   Can be either paid or unpaid

➔   Paid work is when time and effort is rewarded with money and includes jobs such as teaching, nursing, construction, management, retail, hospitality, etc

➔   Unpaid work is when there is no monetary return for your effort and includes jobs such as study, volunteering, parenting, caring or domestic duties

To Meet Specific Needs Safety and Security Paid Work:

➔   Safety and security of a regular income gives peace of mind that they can provide for

themselves and others

➔   Some patterns of work don’t offer ongoing security, e.g. casual work only produces income when there are shifts available

➔   Some job types increase the risk of accident or injury, e.g. mining, oil rigs, construction sites
